Privacy Policy
Your safety depends on us handling your data responsibly. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it.
In short. bSafe Your Guardian is a safety service. To keep you safe it needs your location and, during an emergency, audio and video from your device — and it shares that with the people and services who can help. We never sell your data and never use it for advertising.
1. Who we are
bSafe Your Guardian is provided by bSafe Technology UK Ltd, a company registered in Scotland (company number SC872693) ("bSafe", "we", "us"). For personal and family use of the app, bSafe is the data controller for your personal data.
Where your employer or another organisation provides bSafe to you as part of your work, that organisation is normally the data controller for your workforce use and bSafe acts as its data processor. In that case this policy supplements your organisation's own privacy notice, and you should read the two together.
2. The data we collect
- Account & identity — your name, email address, phone number and password (stored only in hashed form). For workforce accounts, your organisation, role, team or site.
- Your safety circle — the names and contact details of the emergency contacts you choose to add so we can reach them on your behalf.
- Location — your device's GPS location. This is used continuously only for the presence, journey and check-in features you switch on, and is sharpened during an active alert. You control location permissions on your device at all times.
- Audio & video — when you raise an SOS, audio and video may be captured, streamed and recorded from your device so responders can see and hear what is happening, and so there is a time-stamped record afterwards.
- Alerts & incident data — SOS events, check-ins, codeword and fake-call triggers, timestamps and the record of what happened during an incident.
- Device & technical — device model, operating system, app version, push-notification token, IP address, and diagnostic and crash information.
- Communications — messages you send us by email or through the website enquiry form.
3. How and why we use your data
We only use your data for the reasons below, and under the legal bases shown (UK GDPR).
| What we do | Why | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Run the safety service — raise an SOS, share your live location, audio and video, and escalate | To deliver the core service you signed up for and to protect life | Performance of a contract; vital interests |
| Presence, journey and missed-check-in monitoring | To confirm you are safe and raise the alarm if something goes wrong | Contract; consent (for the features you enable) |
| Notify your circle and, for organisations, your console operators | To get help to you quickly | Contract; vital interests |
| Escalate to a monitoring centre (ARC) and the emergency services | To make sure a real person can respond | Vital interests; legitimate interests (safety); contract |
| Keep an audit trail and evidence of an incident | Duty of care, insurance and, where relevant, legal proceedings | Legitimate interests; legal obligation |
| Manage your account, keep it secure and prevent misuse or false alarms | To run a trustworthy service | Contract; legitimate interests |
| Maintain, secure and improve the platform | To keep the service safe, reliable and effective | Legitimate interests |
| Meet legal, regulatory and safeguarding obligations | Because the law requires it, or to protect someone at risk | Legal obligation; vital interests |
| Send service messages, and marketing to business contacts | To keep you informed; marketing only where permitted | Contract; consent / legitimate interests |
4. Emergencies
This is a safety service, so sharing your data in an emergency is one of its main purposes. When you raise an SOS, or where there is otherwise a risk to your life or someone else's, we and any monitoring partner may share your identity, location and incident data — including audio and video — with your nominated contacts, an accredited monitoring centre and the emergency services, without asking again, in order to protect vital interests.
5. Who we share your data with
- Your nominated contacts and, for organisations, your operators — the people you have chosen, or your organisation has assigned, to respond.
- A locally-accredited Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) — where monitored response is enabled for your account.
- The emergency services — where an alert is escalated to them.
- Our service providers — vetted suppliers who host our infrastructure and provide cloud, messaging (SMS, email and push notifications) and mapping services, acting only on our instructions under contract.
- Your organisation — for workforce accounts, so it can meet its duty of care.
- Authorities and advisers — where we are legally required to, or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for third-party advertising.
6. International transfers
We aim to host personal and incident data in your region. Where data is transferred outside the UK, we protect it with appropriate safeguards — such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or a transfer to a country with an adequacy decision.
7. How long we keep it
We keep account data while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards. Incident and evidence data captured during an alert — including audio, video and location — is kept for a defined retention period appropriate to its safety and evidential purpose, then deleted or anonymised. Where your organisation controls your account, its retention policy may apply. We may keep certain data longer where the law requires it.
8. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, to data portability, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it. Because this is a safety service, we may need to keep some data — such as an active incident record — where that is necessary to protect vital interests or to meet a legal duty.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@bsafeworld.com. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, though we would like the chance to put things right first.
9. Children and family plans
Independent accounts are not intended for children under 16. Our family features let a parent or guardian add a child to a family plan; where they do, the parent or guardian sets up and controls the child's participation and provides consent on their behalf. We handle any child's data with additional care and only to provide the safety features the family has chosen to switch on.
10. How we protect your data
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is restricted on a least-privilege basis and logged. Your location sharpens only during an active alert, and is never sold or shared for advertising. We hold our systems and suppliers to enterprise-grade security standards and keep them under review.
11. The website and cookies
Our marketing website uses only essential and functional cookies and does not run third-party advertising trackers. If you send a demo enquiry, we pass your details to our own customer system so we can respond to you.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top, and for material changes we will take reasonable steps to let you know.
